High School Ministries

We’re looking for some students (8th – 12th grade) to help lead VBS this summer!!

June 18 – 22 - 9:30 am – 12:00 pm
*Leaders arrive at 9am

Set-up and training the week of: June 11 - 15
*exact times TBD

There are a few different student volunteer roles:

  • VBS Crew Leader: Help lead a crew of Pk-5 graders 
  • Program Team: Help with upfront program pieces (i.e. skits, announcements, welcoming etc.)
  • Game Team: Help lead and plan games
  • Craft Team: Help facilitate, plan, and set-up craft
  • Snack Team: Help prep and serve snack

Pine Ridge Reservation, SD
Current 10th-12th grade students
July 14-20, 2018

About Pine Ridge:  Pine Ridge Reservation is surrounded by the panoramic beauty of the Badlands. Rolling hills, forests and river valleys extend throughout this area. Despite the natural beauty of Pine Ridge, residents of the reservation are struggling with poverty, unemployment, addiction, health problems and more. The realities of life on the Pine Ridge Reservation are nothing short of heartbreaking. Around 97% of the population lives below the federal poverty line. Most 2–3-bedroom homes on the reservation are occupied by more than 20 people. Life expectancy is shorter than in any other community in the Western Hemisphere aside from Haiti. Although there are no easy solutions, there is much to learn from a people who have weathered both present and past trouble. 

About our Trip: While on the Pine Ridge Reservation, we will spend our days building and repairing homes for families in need and leading Vacation Bible School for the children in the community.  Our nights will be filled with group fun, cultural experiences, praise and worship, and small group time.  Our trip is organized by Youthworks. More info can be found at www.youthworks.com. This trip requires hard work, co-operation, and much self-sacrifice. If you are not willing to rough it and work hard, then this is NOT a good trip for you. This trip is also an incredible experience in faith, service and personal growth and it's a ton a fun too!  

Trip Registration:  The trip is limited to 60 participants (current 10th-12th grade) and priority is given to students who are active at St. Pat's and to those who first complete their registration and non-refundable $100 deposit. St. Pat’s Senior High Program 2017-18: Grades 10-12

Information about all 10th-12th grade programs can be found below. Please email Nicole Stecklein  or call 952-767-0954 for more information about programs, or for help discerning which programs will work best for you.

COMPASS:  Mondays, 7:30-8:45 pm
Speakers, small groups, and good good times!!  Compass nights will rotate between small group nights, speakers, and large group activities (broomball, bonfires, scavenger hunts, dinner nights, service projects, etc.)  All students in grades 10, 11, & 12 are welcome!  Friends are placed in CO-ED small groups together and small groups are led by our dynamic young adult leadership team. Compass is St. Pat’s main senior high program.  *Note: Compass does NOT meet on Navigator weeks.

NAVIGATORS: Once a month Wednesdays, 7:00-8:15 pm                  
St. Pat's senior high Navigator leaders help provide an exciting, large group and relational based middle school faith formation program to our middle school students.  New this year, Navigator nights will take place one Wednesday a month.  On these nights, the entire session will be led by high school students to bring fun, engaging faith messages and themes to middle school students. Navigator leaders are also encouraged to help plan Navigator Nights. Optional planning nights will take place the week before each Nav night.
Navigator Dates: Sep 13 (training), Oct 11, No. 15, Dec 13, Jan 10, Feb 7, Mar 14, Apr 18

Middle School Teachers: Wednesdays 7:00pm-8:15 pm 
St. Pat's is in need of committed, faith filled high school students to help teach 6th-8th grade faith formation classes. Small group leaders meet EVERY WEDNESDAY to help younger students grow in faith. Class lessons include worksheets, prayer activities, reading scripture and discussing faith. Small group leaders need to be responsible, faithful, and have a genuine desire to walk with middle school students and help them grow in faith.  Contact Jaclyn Parell for more information.

Elementary Teachers: Wednesdays 4:45-6:00 pm
St. Pat's is in need of energetic, faith filled high school students to help teach Kindergarten-5th grade faith formation classes.  Come share your love of Christ and the Church with this fun-loving age group.  Students are welcome to teach with a friend and accommodations can be made for students who are in high school sports. Please consider helping with this life-giving ministry.  Contact Jaclyn Parell for more information.

Navigator Band
The Navigator Band (10th-12th grade students) brings fun and engaging worship music to our middle school faith formation program. We are in great need of musical talent.  If you play an instrument or sing, please consider this important ministry. The Nav Band is organized by Jimmy Barnett.  Practice times TBD based on availability of the band.  Questions?  Contact Jimmy.

Liturgical Ministries
High school students are strongly encouraged to volunteer in one of the following Mass ministries.  Training provided. Volunteers are scheduled approximately once a month and can pick preferred Mass times. This is a wonderful way to become more involved at Mass.  
• Lector at Mass (reader)
• Usher at Mass (greet, pass collection baskets, distribute bulletins after Mass)
• Eucharistic Minister (distribute Communion)
