Saturday Afternoon - Independence Mall

Posted: October 02, 2015

We were excited to learn upon our arrival in Philly that PICO was able to secure admission passes for all 300 participants to attend the Pope's Immigration Speech at Independence Mall on Saturday afternoon. After walking about a mile to the security entrance, we were able to stake out spots on the lawn and were pleasantly surprised to find out we would not be standing the entire time, plus the area we selected ran adjacent to the National Parks Independence Visitor Center.

If you can believe it, the foursome to our immediate left was from Maple Grove! Talk about a small world! The master of ceremonies introduced a variety of speakers who shared their immigration stories which were intermingled with musical and dance performances. People in the crowd periodically shared tweets about the whereabouts of Pope Francis.

I must have done a good job picking a viewing location as there was buzz IMMEDIATELY behind us. As I turned around I noticed a CNN reporter and camera man interviewing four people. Check it out...
